1. Core Student Visa Documents

The first part of the Malta student visa application is the general document file. The National-D visa application form must be completed in English and hand-signed by the applicant. Clear original colour scans should be submitted, and e-signatures should not be used.

The applicant must also provide a recent passport-size colour photo with a white background, measuring 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm, with around 80% of the face visible. Passport bio pages should be scanned clearly in colour. Although the visa checklist mentions passport validity of at least 8 months after the intended stay, the GBS application notes also mention minimum 10 months validity before expiry, so applicants should keep the longer validity where possible.

A strong Statement of Purpose is one of the most important documents. The SOP should explain the student's academic background, why they want to study in Malta, why they selected the course, how the sponsor will support the study plan, and why they intend to return to Bangladesh after completing their studies. Strong home ties are specifically highlighted in the checklist.

2. Funds and Sponsor Requirements

For Bangladeshi applicants, sponsor and financial evidence should be prepared carefully. The checklist states that eligible sponsors are parents and siblings only. This should be treated as the Bangladesh-specific requirement unless the visa team confirms otherwise.

The student or sponsor should provide last 6 months' bank statements. The notes mention minimum balance of €3,000 or equivalent and also mention proof of living cost around €12,000. A balance of €7,500 is also mentioned for the TRC card after arrival in Malta. Funds should be maintained consistently and should not suddenly appear without a proper source.

Sponsor documents should include sponsor ID proof, sponsor letter, account number, sponsor National ID or passport number, student passport number, sponsor debit card details, student debit card details, and front and back copies of international debit cards. If the bank balance certificate does not include the sponsor's passport number or National ID number, a notarised letter with the same information is required.

Source of income must match the sponsor's profession. Salaried sponsors should provide salary slips, employment letter, bank statement with salary credits and tax returns. Business sponsors should provide business registration or balance sheets and business account statements. Agricultural income requires land documents, crop sale receipts and agriculture income certificate. Pensioner sponsors should provide pension order and pension deposit statements.

3. Accommodation, Insurance and Travel

Accommodation must be paid and confirmed for at least 4 weeks. The accommodation document should include the student's name and payment details. Temporary or placeholder reservations are not accepted. If the student plans to stay with a friend, family member or host in Malta, Housing Authority approval is required, together with a notarised host letter, Maltese ID proof and utility bill.

Medical and travel insurance should cover accidents, illness, medical emergencies, evacuation and repatriation. The supplied checklist mentions €100,000 or equivalent cover and also refers to USD 120,000 cover valid for 1 year. Guard Me Insurance is recommended in the GBS notes, with an approximate 1-year insurance cost of €575.

For travel, direct flights to Malta are preferred where possible. The notes suggest avoiding connections through another Schengen member state. Suggested routes include Bangladesh or home country to Istanbul to Malta, or Bangladesh or home country to UAE to Malta.

4. GBS Malta Course Information

GBS Malta offers Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate options. Foundation tuition is listed as €5,000 per year, undergraduate tuition as €6,000 per year and postgraduate tuition as €10,000 per year. Intakes are listed for February, May and October.

For admission, students should prepare passport, CV in DD/MM/YYYY format, original academic certificates and transcripts, accepted English language proficiency documents, SOP and work experience letter for postgraduate programmes where required. The minimum offer processing time mentioned in the notes is around 48 hours or 2 days.

For English language requirements, the provided notes list IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE and Duolingo options. MOI is noted for Indian and English-speaking African applicants only, so Bangladeshi students should prepare an accepted English test unless the institution confirms another option.

5. Work, PSW and Long-Term Residency Notes

The supplied notes mention that students can work 20 hours per week, with approximate hourly payment of €7-€12. Post-study work duration is noted as 9 months, and students may apply for an extension immediately after course completion.

For long-term settlement, the notes state that students need to transition to a work visa after studies and may apply for long-term residency after residing in Malta for 5 years on a valid residence permit. Dependants cannot apply during the study period, but a dependency route may be possible once a work permit is obtained.
